Carles Gil arrives at Villa Park
Carles Gil is one of the latest names to arrive at Villa Park. The attacking midfielder has moved to Aston Villa for a fee of around £ 3.5 million from Spanish outfit Valencia. He has decided to leave the prospect of Champions League football next season in order to get regular first-team football.
Paul Lambert is expected to provide Gil with a major boost straightaway as he has confirmed that the 22-year-old is in his plans to start against Liverpool. Villa are without a Premier League victory since the start of December and they have only a few points separating them from the relegation zone.
Lambert confirmed before the start of the January transfer window that he did not expect huge spending at the club, which has been put up for sale by owner Randy Lerner. A £ 3.5 million expenditure on a promising 22-year-old does not look like a huge investment, but Lambert expects big things out of the youngster. Capable of playing in the centre or on the right, Gil will be providing new ideas for the Villa team that have scored only 11 goals in 21 matches this season. The tight nature of the league this season sees Villa only three points above the relegation zone.
“I’m really excited and happy to be here. Once I knew that this club was interested in me I wanted to join.I am really looking forward to playing here and showing the fans what I can do.This is a very historic club and I am looking forward to playing for such a great club in a league that is the top league in the world,” said the player to the club’s official site. “He’s only 22 but he will come here and give us something I don’t think we have at the moment,” said Lambert.
