Barca Interest In Chelsea’s Luiz
After Barcelona captain and club legend Carles Puyol announced that he will be quitting the club after the current season, the Catalan club has renewed its interest in Chelsea’s David Luiz. It is expected that Barcelona will be placing a bid of 30 million Euros (24.7 million) for the 26 year old Brazil international.
According to sources, the Barcelona bosses are hopeful that they will be able to close the deal swiftly before the World Cup finals kick off in the month of June with the Chelsea player being a key figure in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Brazilian squad.
Last summer Barcelona had made a formal bid on the Brazilian star but the bid was rejected after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho adamant that Luiz is not up for sale.
Although Luiz has not been agitating for a shift, according to reports he will be more than pleased to work out a contract with Barcelona and after Mourinho’s plans of recruitment-wherein he has acquired Kurt Zouma, the French central defender from Saint-Etienne from 12.5 million pounds and also Benfica’s holding defender Nemanja Matic for 21 million pounds-he may consider selling.
Earlier Mourinho did not want to let go off Luiz as the coach wanted to give the Brazilian some more chances following his not-so-great performances but it seems that Luiz has not been able to impress his coach much.
Luiz is extremely popular with the fans of the club but according to sources some of his Chelsea teammates agree with Mourinho that Luiz is too showy and casual and this is not helping the team’s cause. Though Mourinho agrees that Luiz is extremely talented he feels that the rugged edges that he likes in his central defenders is missing with Luiz and therefore he is not a very good option in the midfield.
