Antonio Di Natale created history by scoring 200 goals

Veteran striker Antonio Di Natale managed to create history by scoring his 200th goal in the Italian Serie A against Chievo. The Udinese forward was believed to be on the verge of retirement at the end of last season. However, he went back on his decision in order to try and break Roberto Baggio’s long-standing record in Italian football. The former great managed to score 205 league goals during his time in Italian football. Di Natale has been inching forward towards this incredible tally. He moved one step closer by scoring in the 1-1 draw against Chievo.

Speaking after the match, Di Natale said that he is extremely happy to have achieved this record, although the disappointment of not taking three points remains for the former Italian international. The 37-year-old is regarded as one of the finest Italian players in recent years, but he has always resisted the lure to play for clubs other than Udinese. He has been at Udinese since 2004 and has featured in more than 300 appearances for the club. His career with the Italian national team is less stellar after managing only 42 matches. This is widely regarded to be the effect of Di Natale not playing for the likes of AC Milan or Juventus.

“It’s a shame [we didn’t win], Chievo were organised and we had taken the lead, but they scored a great goal. Against a tough team like that, it’s a good point. I want to thank all the team-mates and coaches I’ve worked with over the years, my wife, my children and my parents, who are watching me from up there.Matching Baggio is my next objective,” saidDi Natale. Former Italy international Roberto Baggio represented clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan during his stellar career. He also scored 27 goals for the Italian national team.
