SCOTLAND CRASH OUT OF EURO 2020
Scotland have crashed out of the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament after they were beaten by Croatia in their last game in Group D. The Scottish team didn’t make it to the knockout stage on their return to a major tournament for the first time in over two decades. Scotland had not qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 FIFA World Cup tournament in France. Steve Clarke and the current set ofplayers ensured that the wait for a major tournament ended for Scotland when they qualified for the Euro 2020 tournament.
Croatia took the lead in the first half through Nico Vlasic who applied the finishing touch at the end of 22 passes. Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor dragged the home team levelas the two teams went into the break with a goal apiece.
Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn had a big chance to put Scotland into the leadbut he fluffed his lines with his left foot when he would have been better served with the use of his weaker right foot or his head. Aston Villa star McGinn scored the most goals (seven) for Scotland in the qualifiers for the tournamentand the Scottish fans would have wanted the Aston Villa midfielder to be on the end of the big chance to take the lead for the first time against Croatia and the tournament in general. In the end, the opportunity was missed and Croatia punished him with two goals in the second half.
Modric produced a moment of brilliance to give Croatia the lead for the second time before he took the corner kick that led to the third goal from Inter Milan player Ivan Perisic. The goals from Modric and Perisic gave Croatia the victory over Scotland and a place in the knockout stage via second place in Group D.
