Aston Villa Future Shrouded In Doubt
After announcing the exit of players like Mark Albrighton and Nathan Delfouneso in the last few days, the future of Aston Villa has been shrouded in the cloud of doubt. Manager Paul Lambert has tried to diffuse the situation by saying that the club will be trying to retain key players. Aston Villa have been put up for sale by owner Randy Lerner, who has been at the club for almost a decade. However, talks are yet to progress with any prospect of businessmen and the future of the club is looking in dire situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa endured yet another disappointing season in which they only narrowly managed to avoid relegation. This has been because of the severe financial constraints put up by owner Lerner over the last few years. Gone are the days of spending big during the regime of Martin O’Neill. Despite Albrighton being a key player for the club, he was allowed to leave on a free transfer. He has joined newly promoted Leicester City on a four-year contract. Delfouneso may have not realised his potential, but the future of players like Gabriel Agbonlahor still is a mystery.
The future of star names like Christian Benteke is also in doubt since they are linked with the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.
“I can say they’re not going anywhere. I’ll still have the final say on who came and who went. I wouldn’t imagine anyone will leave without my permission. You’ve got to understand and respect the good work he’s done here. I don’t think that should ever be overlooked. But you have to respect, at the same time, he has own things to do. Any regrets? No, not at all,” said the manager about the future of star names at the club.
