MOYES: ROO NOT FOR SALE

Manchester United manager David Moyes has once again said that star striker Wayne Rooney is not for sale despite reports claiming that Chelsea are extremely close to sealing the signing. The West London outfit made an offer of around £ 20 million for the striker, which was instantly rejected by Manchester United. Rooney has just come back from the pre-season tour after suffering a hamstring injury. He is expected to be out for a month. The 27-year-old England international is extremely worried about his prospects as the World Cup approaches.

Moyes hinted that Robin van Persie is likely to remain as the first team regular, while Rooney may be used as a backup option. Last season, the England international was played out of position on several occasions by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He is extremely aware that this situation could repeat once again. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager José Mourinho has also hinted that second choice players will not be able to think about playing at the World Cup. This indirectly says to Rooney that he should consider leaving Old Trafford immediately.

Mourinho has always said that Rooney is one of his favourite players because of his style of play. Rooney is also thought to be extremely hurt by the way United have treated him after nine years of service.

“The club’s position on Wayne Rooney is there’s no change to that. As far as players are concerned, we’re looking to bring some in and we’re working hard to do that. We’re trying very hard to make some additions to the squad and hopefully we’ll have some good news in the not too distance future,” said the United manager, who has also revealed that the club are looking to bring in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The 26-year-old is out of favour at the camp Nou.
